The storyteller behind Nesta

Welcome to my creative world.

Based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, I bring together my passions for teaching, art, fashion and the natural world to tell enchanting stories that champion the earth and all its creatures.

How it all started...

I have loved writing and illustrating since my own primary school days. Words like 'magic', 'dragon', 'witch', and 'star' have always ignited vivid pictures in my imagination. Alongside writing, I have spent years as a primary school teacher and English curriculum leader, encouraging children to discover the pure joy of poetry and creative writing.

My background in visual art developed during my studies in fashion design and illustration at Maidenhead College of Art and Design. Born in Bangor, North Wales, I drew upon my own heritage and middle name to create Nesta, blending a keen eye for fashion into her signature dress and magical presence in the wild landscapes of Wales.

Bringing magical tales to life

When developing my stories, the words and the imagery arise together. Nesta is in many ways an incarnation of myself in a magical guise, gifted with the earth powers to protect the wild environments we cherish. The remarkable designs found across nature—from delicate insects and soaring birds to lush woodland flora—inspire every line.

Whether using fluid watercolours, vibrant inks, or modern digital brushes, each illustration captures the wonder of wildlife. My hope is that readers feel an instant bond with Nesta, Paisley the Cat, and Bird as they embark on journeys that celebrate our planet's precious habitats.

A heartfelt mission for our planet

At the heart of the Nesta adventures lies a gentle yet urgent mission: encouraging young minds to recognise the fragility of our ecosystems and feel inspired to look after them. Through whimsical stories and rich, vibrant illustrations, I want children and families to fall in love with the natural world.

From picture books like Nesta's Cold Spell and Nesta's Stormy Spell to an upcoming novel for older readers, this journey is ever-growing. You can follow along with daily videos and behind-the-scenes glimpses into my studio across Instagram and YouTube.

"Nesta's adventures capture the pure magic of the outdoors, inspiring children to fall in love with nature, storytelling, and the joy of reading."
